OK, so aparently I was wrong, and the Mustangs use the same starter for both auto and stick, so that rules some of my theory out. Could still be a misboxed unit tho, like something for a 302/351 truck - I know for a fact them things use different starters based on transmission type. When you get back home just pull yours and take it to a parts store and compare with what they have for a factory replacement, if the nose cone lenght and the gear offset and tooth count matches up then your issue is elsewhere.

New pipe was purchased and coolant nipple was lopped off and welded shut. Little epoxy was needed after a 110 PSI pressure test revealed a ver little leak. All pained up and dandy now.
Here it is compared to a stock 1986 Panther pipe:
New fuel pressure regulator was purchased since I was ordering things.
BBK adjustable:
Expecting it not to fit. lol

I had an AFPR go bad on me once, it was a cheap one tho. It would go from high to low at random while driving, made the car run really bad. It leaned out on me driving home one night, I popped the hood and the headers were all glowing red. I replaced it with a stock regulator and it was rock solid from then on. Eventually the rail mounted gauge shit out and started weeping fuel into the case, so it went away too.
Better stuff probably holds up better, but just keep an eye on the gauge if it has one. If the fluid starts getting really dark, its probably mixing fuel in the glycerin from an internal leak.
Where did you get the new heater pipe? I constantly fear for mine, its original and not exactly so amazing looking anymore.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

You can make it fit... just need an adapter line from the fuel rail up to the FRP instead of direct mount.

I actually got a complete set of adapter lines for an aftermarket (currently a "Vortech"-brand) FPR, they move the FPR between the rail and the frame line. Not sure what you do with the factory FPR in that setup, long while since it's been installed in a vehicle and I simply don't remember anymore... It's currently chilling on a shelf collecting dust cause my fuel injection pressures are slightly higher than what y'all are working withThe ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.

It will either directly fit onto the rail with minimum coercion or directly fit back into its box waiting for a fox body install~David~

Oh and to answer your other question about the AFPR....It has a port for a gauge but no gauge attached. Not planning on running one. The port looks to be in an unfavorable orientation so it got a plug threaded in.~David~

AFPR is on and clears everything much to my amazement. Says reuse stock hardware. BS Different thread pitches! Had to make some bolts up. Port for gauge leads DIRECTLY into an intake runner. No gauge ever to be installed there on this engine.
Mustang heater pipe installed and does not leak. Pressure tested the system to 16lbs. Nub left from existing coolant port to egr spacer was chopped down JUST enough to clear the upper intake. Kinda squishing a vaccum line atm.
Compression was checked on all cylinders. All were at 152ish but cylinder 8 at 145ish NBD.
All spark plugs were black on the tip. Not wet just dry black. They were gapped at 50. Reinstalled them gapped at 45.
Moates quarterhorse is in too. Still does not run.
Will remove number one spark plug and rotate engine until my finger blows away from the hole. Set the balancer to 10 and stab the dizzy so the rotor hits number one spark plug.
Will check for spark.
Will check for fuel pressure (as much as I can because the thing aint running).
Will check for firing order. 1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8
FML.
On a positive note...the hood closes just fine with the gt 40 tubular intake elevated 3/8" and my fancy retractable under hood light. Looks like I would have issues if I was running an egr. The bell would make contact with the hood for sure.
This is the one positive from the day.~David~
