That's actually a decent price for Mobil 1. Though like Torquelover said, I usually just buy it in the 5 qt. jugs. Cheaper that way.

Going by the way the engines look that I've pulled apart with 200k+ on 'em with Mobil 1 oil in 'em for most of their lives, I'm inclined to say that the stuff is worth every penny.

so I dropped my the shop today to give him those fog lamps since I was out with bobert at Buffalo Wild Wings for a small CVN meet.
I saw the car with the motor in and hooked up to the trans.
I asked him about the motor oil he's putting in.
he said to DEFINITELY change it after 500 miles...its a non-detergent motor oil...so, it will have to be changed after 500 for sure....Im not sure what weight, but its prolly 40.

I took some pics while I was there....

Yes, very nice valve covers! Might want to spin off that Fram oil filter and swap in a Purolator Pure One, or even a cheap Motorcraft filter. Fram makes some crappy filters.

Very pretty valve covers and water pump. Surprised you're not pulling off the power-steering pump to clean up the bracket, since those get awfully nasty after 19 years of service. And when's the SEFI supply line going bye-bye?

TL, good call about the PH8A. I quit using them after reading that article somewhere online where a guy bought a bunch of oil filters and cut them open to see how they were constructed. I don't remember everything about his investigations, except that as you point out, the Motorcraft he dissected was acceptable in quality, and the Purolators and their derivatives such as Carquest and NAPA Gold were pretty good. Don't suppose you have the link?

Here's a good link to a comparison of filters for non-oil cooler equipped Ford SBs:

yea, I was kinda disappointed to see a Fram oil filter on there...but in 500 miles, its coming off..so, no biggie.

                      thanx mangs.
I kinda wanted him to do the FMS logo in blue, but he insisted on red to match the plug wires...and since the color them for the car will partly be red, I'm ok with it, they look great.
that pic of the oil pan gies you a good idea of the gloos/mettalic shine of the paint.

I told him that I HAVE to have it back by next friday...my folks are leaving to go on a weekend vacation from friday morning thru monday afternoon...so, I NEED the car back by then...he told me he will have it there for sure.

btw, do you guys think I should do this with the tail lights? I thought about it months back and I still want to do it...
paint the blacked out part(normally red reflector-check sig for reference) with gloss black.
almost gives it a Tbird look, but I like how it adds some accent to the back end without taking away from its look drastically.
*its an old pic, ignore the small hole in the pass. light*

Ooh, ooh, someone keep me posted! Pretty sure you both have my phone number. A certain small someone will likely be meddling with my schedule, but we'll have to see.

Oh, and thanks for the link - looks like the same article I saw before.

hmm..TorqueLover, one of the CVNers was thinking of going out to Lapeer dragway in about 2 weeks...on a saturday...maybe then?
I'll wait for him to post about it to give a date....I hear its not the greatest dragstrip in the world, but its great for practicing launches at least...and its like 20bux to race as many times as you want all day....so that's a plus....does that sound like fun? Nathan in MN could prolyl come along as well....and yea, Mike, I'd love to have you there as well.

That does sound like fun. If scheduling works out to my advantage, maybe I could make something like that coincide with a visit to the relative types in Sterling Heights. Even if I can't make it, anyone going that way on 94 or 96 is welcome to drop by here (Lansing; I'm maybe 2 miles from the Cedar Street exit off 96) for some burgers or something.
