My car never stops amazing me, and perplexing people at school. She's been averaging 19.5mpg for the 33 miles back and forth to school (66ish round trip). Some people don't believe me. I let the tripminder do the talking. I confuse the hell out of people with rice burners who can't wrap their minds around a big car with decent gas mileage. I love it when people state how big cars are such pigs when it comes to gas. Then I prove them wrong with facts. I have verified that the tripminder is working properly, the gas used on the meter is equivelant to how much it takes to fill the tank up, and the speedometer's odometer is changing at the same intervals as the tripminder (and the speedometer is pretty spot on). But with any good thing on my car, there's always a catch, she's got a rod knock. So I can't have much fun with her as of late. I plan on rebuilding an exploder motor to replace my knocking lopo. I will be updating this thread and the one in the 5.0 tech about my motor rebuild in the later weeks. I hope to pick up the motor sometime this week or next. 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0. I can't wait. Check up on my road to paint thread too.

Fuel milage is all power to weight ratio. My Grand Marquis gets better milage than my old blazer with a v6.

So is mine. It burns gasoline and rubber.

Hey guys, if you haven't been checking the other thread in the 5.0 section, then you probably wouldn't know that I am in the process of rebuilding a Exploder 5.0

Picked up an 1997 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 Umm... last monday. Brought it into school on Tuesday. Began disassembly that day and today I have the motor completely stripped down to the block, minus a couple of threaded plugs. The machine shop teacher wants me to measure everything so I can start ordering parts for the motor maybe sometime at the end of next week.

The motor has the GT40P heads so at some point in the future, I'm gonna have to pick up a set of Motorsport headers to work with my new exhaust set up (whenever that comes around) but until then I'll be running a set of '90 Tubular manifolds just so I can run the engine.

Don't worry about the rod knock in it now. I beat the shit outta mine with the rod knocking and it still was fine when I parked it. I didn't even know that a lopo would reach 6k but mine did like a champ. A knocking, oil leaking/burning champ.

And you parked it why? :p I think I'll take my chances with the explorer motor that won't knock lol.

I blew up the rear end. That was a noise I couldn't ignore, especially when my left rear tire started locking up on its own lol.
