Recently I decided to plan like I will make it to Scottfest, and decide to take the 91 - (AC, better gas mileage... its been good so I guess this is its chance to prove itself...)
Some type of CD player head unit was a must, so I decided to go ahead and spend some $$ on that and a few other goodies...
I recently installed the Clarion USB/CD head unit and replaced the ashtray light with one of my 194 LED fixtures. I tried to make the cig lighter illumination LED but the design of the fixture doesnt work out too well.
Ive also taken apart the rest of the dash to do a few things...
For one to replace the HVAC controll with one that doesnt have floppy knobs, also swapped in an LED bulb of course.
Also removed the bulb from the defroster button (would not take an LED) and loaded the instrument cluster with 5LED 194 bulbs... turned out better than I thought!! Although it holds 8 of them. 8!!!! I had to rob some from the 85 to do itbut those will be replaced soon.
Also I began demeling out the dash bezel to hold the blue digital gauges and an LED rocker switch, simmilar to how the police gauges were installed but much less of a hack job of course
Completed pics wont be for a while... still waiting on an electric sender and the volt meter...Last edited by 85crownHPP; 06-24-2007, 06:59 PM.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Its like a green flim under the printed speedo face itself... I found that out by discecting one at the junkyard. Cant take it out without peeling off the face... I guess the LEDs overpower it and work well with the fiber optic thingies. Heres an old CVN thread where I discovered the thingies...

the gauges are oil pressure and volts...
the volts is just a generic volt meter circuit board I guess isnt suppoesed to go in a car becuase it needed a 5volt source I had to improvise, and it changes over about .30 volts constantly, I guess its not supposed to do AC power  I guess I should have just used the one made by Stinger for cars, but it was bigger, cost more, and I had to try this drop in mount thing.
The oil pressure one is BRIGHT it hardly dims with the dimmer. I need to tint a cheap flashlight lens and cover that thing or something!!!
Plus it thinks below 40psi is dangerous and starts flashing at me as part of a warning modeso when I hot idle its sitting there flashing 27... 27... 27... 27 ... cold start reads close to 60psi, warm driving around 40.
Oh the dremel got away from me in a couple parts, dont trust a drunken dremel hand! You can see it up close, its not too bad, still less of a hack job than the police gaugesPete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements
