a 351w and a c6 for the wagon!!! is this a good start for the track or not. just looking for something for me and the son to play around with on the weekends and i can get it real cheap!!! so lets hear what you think!!!!!!!!!!

Stock 351 or mildly upgraded?
Imaging you'd get it out of a truck, it'd be kinda slow.. But with a cam and heads you'd have a little more puff. Wagons with the towing package should've had 351s!__________________________________________________

The C6 is a big heavy fucker. It also eats a lot of power. Honestly, the AOD makes more sense if its not dead, though a shaky one may die with more power. It will also bolt straight up to a 351w or 351c. A C4 even is a better choice than a C6, though I really don't much care for those things.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

C6 is pretty pointless, really. At this point a decently built AOD will last as well as a C6, and weight less, and give you overdrive. As Thain said, a C4 is a bit better but you're still losing OD.
Overall, I'd just put some serious gears behind the AOD and run it till it blew, which will probably take a while unless you're making serious power.

yes, the AOD is all mechanical. The electrical connections are only for the neutral safety switch to keep the starter for engaging when in gear.

I often have two windows/tabs up, both of Rockauto's catalog when it comes to this stuff. Allows you to cross-reference really quickly. What's the same on 351 vs. 302, mustang vs. panthers, etc. You can also click on the actual part number in their catalog and it brings up a (sometimes vague) list of all cars that part is listed as fitting.
