    Excellent.

I had this replaced in 2012 I think. Which kind should I replace it with, or does it especially matter?

    Thanks.

I had to purchase the BWD unit locally. No one could find a Motorcraft unit as they appear to be discontinued and Green Sales wants your first born and virgin bride in payment for a NOS unit. I had no issues with using the BWD unit. RockAuto also offers a couple different brands. Side note, not much in these units to fetch such a high price. I've un-potted one of these and there are damn few components in them!

see if the connections to and from it are clean first. They usually don't go bad that often. I wouldn't expect a failure in 2 years. Connections are free to look at though.

I'll do some inspecting under the hood first light tomorrow and have a see.

Could it be anything else aside from the Duraspark box?

many things, but really you need to find out if you have spark when it won't go. If you have good strong spark when it won't start, replacing the ignition box is probably not going to fix anything.

Well I started it this morning and ran it for 15 or so minutes and nothing went wrong....so it was getting spark for that period of time.

I've also had the issue that the connector on the TFI would slip off just enough to disconnect. That was highly annoying. Had to ziptie it on for a while so the clip would press down enough to hold it in.

Well here's hoping it's something minor and silly and not like a broken pushrod.

A broken pushrod wouldn't cause any of the symptoms your describing, nor would your engine break a pushrod without some serious other problems.

I swear when the engine first died last night at the red light I heard a sound from under the hood. It sounded like a spring breaking.

Or I might have imagined it.

Ignition module connectors appear to be solid.

Car fired up, seemed to take 5 seconds for fuel to reach the pump?...

I took it up and down the parking lot with no issues.

Let it idle for 15 minutes, turned it off.

I got gas on Friday afternoon from a station I seldom go to, could it have been bad gas (like I myself often get from eating McDonald's)?

could have been. Might want to stash a fuel filter just in case as bad gas tends to clog those up.

I plan to drive it to the mechanic tomorrow morning, and if it dies on the way there I'll just have it towed like I was going to do anyways now that I have an AMA membership.

I'll forego the winterization and have him check the ignition module and the fuel pump and change the filter. Maybe I should idle the car and burn off the gas in the tank and refill it with 89 octane?

I've had my 88 run on damn near 85 octane... ran like crap, but never died on that tank. 11mpg on that crap, but it ran. I don't think the 87 octane is the issue.

Well this morning I started it and drove it to the mechanic, while on hold with AMA (handsfree).

Left it there, and he's called me to tell me he can't find anything wrong with the car.

                                Sigh.
