Hey, Insomniac, did you ever get my PM from Sunday? We got the gas and all, if you wanna come over this weekend.
no i cant, i just spent 800 on Christmas BS, i saw the PM but it was early in the morning and i didnt feel like replying at the time and i ended up forgetting. So I probably cant make it till January, unless my girl pisses me off and i take back the gps system i got her , now I'm just lookin for a reason.
 so your lady's GPS burned off my vacation fuel That's alright man, you know your budgets and schedules and what not, so whenever you're ready let us know. Out of curiosity, what GPS did you get her?

i got her an Insignia 4.3, it was only about $100. But in January or February i plan on gettin a good deal of work done on the Caprice.
Alright, sounds like you have an open differential now, and you need a limited-slip or a locker. IIRC the rear axle in your car is a 10-bolt with a 7.5" (or thereabouts) ring gear diameter, the factory locker for this is the Eaton G80 which is known in the S10 and halfton circles to not be able to take much abuse before self-destruct. I'll ask around on my Chevy board, but I believe you may be better off with an aftermarket locker...
the factory lockers are non rebuildable so you need a new factory style unit or an aftermarket unit ($$$) on average the factory ones last around 100,000 miles. i have replaced a few of these units, a 91 firebird and a 94 impala ss come to mind.......what is the current gear ratio? do you wish to change the gears?

Scott, yes, I remembered they are non rebuildable, and I noticed Summit has the factory-style LSDs for the 7.5" axle and a Detroit locker for the 8.5"...

idk what the gear ratio is. idk alot about this car, i just bought it cause its fast and i was bored, i figured i'd find things out as i go. Its a stock non-police package Caprice trans though. And like i said before i dont want anything i dont need, i just want both wheels to spin.
So just a locker then - full-blown aftermarket units are quite pricey, and the factory units suck, I'll see if I can find you some new "lunchbox" locker for cheap...
