    Belt problem

I am changing my a/c belt, and I can't figure out how to slip the belt on. The lip of the second pulley at the bottom of the engine is bigger than the first one. Am I supposed to move the fan? If so I can't really see how to do that other than removing a bunch of bolts. I figured this would be as easy as changing the alternator belt

    take the altenator belt off
loosen the ac tensioner......one bolt in the front of the tensioner bracket, one in the rear of the tensioner bracket the rear one you gotta do a reach around under and behind the ac compressor......theres a slot for a 1/2" ratchet and extension to tighten the new belt

Another question though, is there a way to remove the pressure from the low port of the a/c? right now it's in the red warning area on the gauge.

Are you checking the pressure with the AC on or off? If the compressor is not running, you won't get a useful reading. It would also be a good idea to check the high side pressure just to see what its doing.

x2. If you don't know exactly what you're doing, find someone who does.
I ended up spending $860 for a new compressor, orifice tube, & receiver drier after I tried to charge the system myself. The compressor spat metal shavings into everything because there wasn't enough ester oil in the system.

Oh man, was there any indication of a problem? After I charged mine there seemed to be a leak at the top of the compressor, but it stopped after awhile.

My problem started with it blowing not so cold. Then, when I thought it needed recharging (retrofitted to 134 a few years ago), I went to charge it, and the compressor started making some horrible noises and stalled the engine until I unplugged it. Moral of the story: make sure you add ester oil when you charge the system. Or have someone at a rad and a/c shop do it. And it was the hottest day we've had so far this year (99*)

Also, too much oil isn't good either. The AC won't work as well if there is too much in there. Overcharging can blow seals, undercharging results in poor performance.

Well I buy the artic freeze refrigerant recharger and on the package it says it refills both refrigerant and oil, and it says it also seals leaks.

I was told by a couple different people to steer clear of the leak sealers because it can clog orifice tubes. But if it works for you....
