    Rob, not sure how many miles, it was rebuilt at some point, and it's not the original engine. The casting numbers on the block seem to point towards it coming originally from a car.

    Looking good.

    All the 240's had car casting #'s The 240's all had AE while the 300's were TE in the casting #'s.

        Not for this engine, won't know what it needs until I get it running, maybe throw an air/fuel ratio gauge on it.


        Fordman, got any suggestions on carb linkage for the throttle? I'm having a hard time finding info on Fordsix.com.

          The easiest way is to use a throttle cable. You can either go with a new one like a Lokar throttle cable ( Can order from summit or jeg's ) . Or go salvage yard hunting and try to find one in the length you'll need from a newer vehicle.

          The cable will require a bracket to mount it by the carb. You can either fabricate one or order one.

          The new cable's run $35.00-$50.00 depending on the length you need and if you get the plain black one or the braided stainless steel one. The brackets range from $15.00-$100.00+ depending on the style you get.

            I have a Lokar throttle cable bracket, was saving it for the lincoln, but I could use it on this. How long of a cable should I get? I shouldn't need anything more than about 2 feet I think.

              Just measure from your firewall by your gas pedal to your carb the way you want to route the cable.

                For this you'll need the wide-band sensor, which is expensive - just throw in a vacuum gauge that you can see as you drive, then use that and the plug reading chart and you'll be fine.

                  That's a saga in itself, I have never been able to match one company's Ford Blue with anyone else's, they are all different shades of blue, varying from light blue to dark blue.....I agree with melikey, turn that carb around, or the end cylinders are going to be running way lean...

                  Concerning the throttle cable: If you haven't already done something with it, I love using Lokar products...

                    Actually the different shades of paint is on purpose. I was hoping the newer Ford blue would be darker, but that's alright. The color difference is more noticeable in person.

                    I'm also going to go Lokar on the cable, the stuff ain't cheap, but it's good quality.

                      Actually if you look at the pics with the engine now it the truck he already flipped the carb in the correct position - the secondaries linkage you see facing the front of the truck suggest his primaries are now towards the outboard side of the intake, like they should.

                        No you dont - you can use a cheap A/F gauge with a $20 one wire O2 sensor to tell if you're running too rich or too lean... you just cant fine tune with it...

                          As far as the throttle cable is concerned; get a rough measurment. Avoid cutting it if you can (and remember to remove the cable from the sheath) as it is a bitch to get the end over back on the braided stainless sheath once its been cut. I cut mine even after Tom warned me about this...

                          If you do have to cut it, cut the sheath at a sligth angle, and the tip cover goes on with ease. You may find this useful should you decide to cut it.

                          BTW, Jon, that is a very snazzy looking engine you have there. Very impressive for a 240, indeed...

                            You can also use some masking tape, to keep it from fraying. Also a dab of solder might not hurt afterwards.

                              I tried the tape method, with masking tape (both the green and the beige), electrical tape, and duct tape. That didn't work well for me; although I was slightly perturbed at the time being, seeing as I was having such a fun time trying to get the end back on the sheath. My frustration may have been a factor in the poor performance of the "tape method"...

                                :P. i wound up cutting mine like 5 times. just was waaay to long and i was taking a small bit at a time off. Last cut i made it frayed on me. But i held that bitch tight. reall tight. And forced the shit head back in the tube. Got it in there tightned it down. Yes. It can be very agervating.
