Bought one today (Pure 1 ), knew there was something better out there than Fram but can't believe the oiled filter hype plus or justify the beaucoup dolares. Very well made, on visual inspection blows away Fram & STP.

What hype? It's been proven that they don't filter as well as the some of the high dollar paper ones. No big deal though. Since most engines will last nearly forever with a pair of pantyhose for a filter.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

I ran oiled filters on my Beetle mostly because there was no other option. It was a small custom filter for the dual carb setup. Prior to that, I ran the stock oil bath air cleaner, which was a horrible mess to maintain. It had 1/2 quart of oil in it that required changing with the engine oil, and I had to clean the thing out and shit. Blah.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Oiled filters just sound like so much work and all of my "research" hasn't shown me anything that "proves" they work better. I hate to say it but Ive seen a lot that says theyre not that great at keeping dirt out over time since they were orig. designed for racing where that is not a primary concern. Sorry to be obsessing a lot about basic parts but Im on a tight budget (esp. after buying a new tranny) and just want whats best for my car in terms of perf. (speed and mpg) and longevity.Last edited by 91 LTD; 07-09-2006, 10:40 PM.

I have an oil-type filter, sits right next to my alternator and gets lots of shit sucked by the fan. The pipe between the filter and the intake is white shiny PVC, any traces of dirt or dust would show right away, there's absolutely nothing in it though, same for the TB - still nice and shiny, even after two months of driving through crappy summer air (outer surface of filter is nasty now, gotta clean it soon).
