Purolator make a bitchin Air Filter

Bought one today (Pure 1 ), knew there was something better out there than Fram but can't believe the oiled filter hype plus or justify the beaucoup dolares. Very well made, on visual inspection blows away Fram & STP.

AC Delco makes the #1 air filters. Period. Yes it's a GM product, but it's much better filter than anything else.

Did not know that. Think I saw them at Pepboys but I was pretty hungover. Wish there was some hard data on "tuneup" parts cause all I want is the most bang/ buck.

The oiled ones are nice, and over the life of the car, the price is much less than replacing a standard filter ever 10-20k.

You can sell me on the price/ time angle but I just can't believe the rest of the hype surrounding oiled filters.

What hype? It's been proven that they don't filter as well as the some of the high dollar paper ones. No big deal though. Since most engines will last nearly forever with a pair of pantyhose for a filter.

I ran oiled filters on my Beetle mostly because there was no other option. It was a small custom filter for the dual carb setup. Prior to that, I ran the stock oil bath air cleaner, which was a horrible mess to maintain. It had 1/2 quart of oil in it that required changing with the engine oil, and I had to clean the thing out and shit. Blah.

Oiled filters just sound like so much work and all of my "research" hasn't shown me anything that "proves" they work better. I hate to say it but Ive seen a lot that says theyre not that great at keeping dirt out over time since they were orig. designed for racing where that is not a primary concern. Sorry to be obsessing a lot about basic parts but Im on a tight budget (esp. after buying a new tranny) and just want whats best for my car in terms of perf. (speed and mpg) and longevity.

I have an oil-type filter, sits right next to my alternator and gets lots of shit sucked by the fan. The pipe between the filter and the intake is white shiny PVC, any traces of dirt or dust would show right away, there's absolutely nothing in it though, same for the TB - still nice and shiny, even after two months of driving through crappy summer air (outer surface of filter is nasty now, gotta clean it soon).

You're not seriously thinking of getting a K & N air filter are you? Might as well not have an air filter at all.

As for the oiling thing, my 62 GMC came stock with oil bath, glad it didn't have it when I got it lol

Spectre Performance, not K&N - twice cheaper, flow is slightly worse, filtering obviously better.
