    do torque converters wear out?

Do they? The trans shop said they were waiting for a new torque converter to come in. Apparently, the old one is worn out. I'm going to take a look at the old one when I get the car.

You can destroy the hub if your pump bushing goes bad. It is possible for the bushings/bearings to wear out inside your converter, but not as common. You would have to cut the converter open to see that.

it's common practice to replace the converter when you do a rebuild. Converters are near impossible to flush and since they hold the majority of the fluid you replace it to avoid conatminating the new/rebuilt trans with any possible debris that was in the fluid in the old converter.
