I'll run Motorcraft, Wix, Purolator and Super Tech. I will not run Fram anything as I have personally witnessed 4 Fram oil filters self destruct. If you think Fram is alright, you can go shit in a hat and stay the fuck away from my car. My friend was changing the oil for the first time on his '94 Taurus, and the previos owner had installed a Fram oil filter. He put the filter wrench on, and got one turn out of it. The cardboard endcap had seperated itself from the rest of the filter.

K & N also sucks goat choad. People not in the know will believe anything when it is shoved down their throats enough. Their oil filters are subpar, and their air filters are useless on anything, but a heavily modified high horsepower motor. People actually buy into their advertising that they will see horsepower gains by running a K & N filter. :nonono:

Very true, but I bet Ford specifies how to make it. And I bet Ford isn't going to put a Fram on their engines.

Proper lubrication is ever so important on these newer cars. i saw a guy get Jiffy lube to change hi oil in his 05 Mustang directly after rolling it off the showroo. Made it 30 minutes to where my Dad works (I was doing some stuff to my car) he came in bitching about how it was nocking, and calling everyone he knew telling them Fords were crap. First thing we did was look at the oil change rciept. Wrong weight oil was used, dumb fucks trashed this guy 30 mile engine, because he was a dumb fuck for going there.

Fords new CVT tranny uses a special fluid. Using any other fluid will result in toasting the tranny in 2-3 miles. The fluid they use actually has very high friction coeficients under high pressure, which is how the CVT can work. Regular fluids will just cause it to slip.

One of my best friends wife bought an '05 Impala from a Lincoln/Mercury dealer. Which explains why it has a Motorcraft filter on it, lol. The non funny part is that whoever at the dealer did the oil change overfilled the fucking thing! Tomorrow I offered to drain some of that oil out. Ignorant fuckers. There's holes and hatch marks on the dipstick for a reason. :nonono:

Didn't mean to open such a can of worms jusr was surprised to find out that a lot of cheap filters come from the same place and that there was such a broad range of quality in terms of manufacturing and design.

Yep, those fluid types were specified for a reason. My S10 requires 5w30. For years, I never changed my own oil in it, and it was getting 10w30. Its had an annoying lifter tap in the winter since I've owned it, or at least it has till I started changing my own oil again. I run 5w30 in it, and oddly enough, it doesn't make any stupid noises any more. When all else fails, read the fucking manual.

              :stupid:

Those s10's are really picky with oil, if you have an older one. I had to run 15-30 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter in mine otherwise it would tap like a motherfucker or stall with the ac on. Plus, if you own an older s10/s10 blazer, you will know when its due for an oil change when valvetrain noise starts showing up.

That's exactly what Ford (and other automakers) have said. It wasn't that they missed the problem, everyone misses something, it's that they chose to not fix it and pay for the people killed or injured. All automakers care more about the dollar then their reputations. If that was the most important thing we would all be driving Volvos...

i apologize for my ignorance guys, ive always used fram oil filters in my box and i will definately change over to motorcraft or purolator. as for oil types/brands, wat do you guys recommend? i usually get castrol syntec high mileage or sumtimes pennzoil. air filters, well i have a 'cold air intake' tube on mine so its a cheapo autozone brand but it hasnt given me any problems. keeps dirt out and lets plenty of air in.

That's right, they did not chose to fix it. Because it is an ECONOMY CAR! Not the minivan of safety. If you wanted an ubber safe car you would cough up 2-3 times more and get a Volvo, or a Crown Vic or a Town Car. The car was CHEAP very CHEAP! The market is there, people will buy it. The people that owned them did not want to pay another 2-3 grand for the car because of more development and redesigning costs.

It's not an evil corporation only lookin out for the dollar. And I DID NOT START THIS! Shit happens get over it man. You know what is funny, you are gonna bash Ford forever because of this (mainly because it was a massive media expo) but you will and probably already have forgot about how our GOVERNMENT decided that it was too expensive to put a new tile on the shutter because of costs. Even though every air and space museum has a space section and without fail, one of them says that with one missings tile the shuttle would fall apart. So, you wanna get pissed about dollar for lives, there it is. Nothing short of murder.

Heres a little lesson in how companies operate. When a problem is found with a product, there are always two options:

Issue a recall to correct the problem
Ignore it and pay the lawsuits that result.

The cost of each option is calculated, and they take the cheaper one. Thats it. It has nothing to do with the type of product, or anything else. Its all about the bottom line. All companies do this, so its not an attack on Ford specificly.
