Well I spoke too soon. The dist on the lincoln is acting up again. The problem lies with teh vac advance. When it is hooked up, the car bucks and everything else. When it is unhooked, it runs fine. What are the side effects if I just leave it unhooked? Worse gas mileage? Low power output? My dad needs this car for work, I want it to be reliable, but I don't have the cash to fix the fucking thing. ANy help?

Unhooking vac advance?

Depends where its hooked up. You should have it connected above the throttle plate so the vacuum increases with throttle. If its bucking and acting stupid, it sounds like either the base timing is too advanced, or you're getting too much or constant vacuum. Leaving it disconnected won't really hurt anything, but it may eat into the fuel mileage a bit as well as cause a bit of power loss. It might also bog slightly on acceleration. Won't damage the engine any though. Also, depending on the distributor, you may have mechanical advance as well as the vacuum so it won't affect it quite as much.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
