Are you using the factory rocker arms or aftermarket roller rockers?

the torque depends on the hardware and the gasket you are using. New bolts are good idea, since there seems to be several people with broken head bolts lately. Follow what the repair/service manual says if you are using factory style head bolts and gaskets.

302 engines before 1992 1/2 use standerd bolts which are torqued to 72 ft.-lbs. torque-to-yield bolts were used in later engines. Standard bolts are a uniform diameter from the head to the threads. Torque-to-yield bolts are a little bigger just under the head and smaller down the shaft. I will get pics of both. Torquing a 302 head bolt to 100 ft.-lbs can shear them off.

            302 7/16 in. Head Bolts: Torque to 45. ft.-lbs., 55 ft.-lbs., and
            65-72 ft.-lbs.,

            351W 1/2 in. Head Bolts: Torque to 45 ft.-lbs., 65 ft.-lbs., 85 ft.-lbs and
            100 ft.-lbs.,

Directions will come with new torque-to-yield head bolts if you buy new. If I find a set laying around, I will post them.

stock rocker arms are going on. I got this set of bolt-locker head bolts, and each one came with a washer to get better torque readings so the package said. they are grade 8.2

I did mine to whatever the book says on original bolts. Didn't even consider replacing them at the time. I do regret that now, but I am not motivated to yank the heads off to correct it either.

they are grade 8 bolts, a metric bolt would be 9.8 or 10.9 unless it is a socket head cap screw then it is like a 12.X
