    Ignition module

I'm looking at an ignition module on rockauto, it says it was made for California market vehicles, it also says it is made for Canadian vehicles. are these any different than the normal ICM's?

    AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5A8 AdvanTech
Part is designed for CA Market vehicles

The grey box item from O'reilly TFI module is still working on my 88 4 years on.

Same here, but 86 and 5 years now I think.

Well, he's looking at Duraspark modules...

Since I have a car that is Duraspark as well ('83, 302, factory carb) I'm curious to know how flexible they are about interchanging as well. All I know is there are 2 and 3 connector versions and that those cannot be mixed, the other revisions are identified by the colour of the rubber/plastic grommet around the wires exiting the case and "supposedly" you need to replace like-for-like...

I have a 3 connector (DS-III) module, that was converter to a 2 by shorting 2 wires. However I believe it is acting up when it gets hot, so i need one to check if it happens again. Airtex makes some good stuff, generally, I can't imagine it being any different, but i suppose I can order it and see..

make sure its not the pickup or the coil giving up too. They can become heat-reactive and crap out on you when they warm up, but then again thats also how the module usually dies.

Pickup and reluctor is pretty new but I won't rule it out. Coil resistance tests showed good when it would not start, and it had spark, so I'm kind of leaning towards the ignition timing being thrown off, but if a new module doesn't fix it when the problem occurs again, I'll have to dig in deeper

I am wondering the same thing...just havent done much research yet. My wagon has the stupid 3 connector box and all that jazz, since it was a VV engine at one time. My car has random powerloss but, seems to be more and more of an issue. I would check to see if ignition parts are returnable, then go from there.
