I read the thread about cleaning the EGR port and watched the video. It looks simple enough and was thinking of making it my weekend project. Question is I noticed that the guy's car was a 95 (I think it was a CV). Is it basically the same proceedure for my 85 or are there things I have to do differently considering the 10 year difference? Or does it even have one (though I would think it would).

85 is maybe easier, depending which intake you have. If its the rusty iron one, you're good. REmove the injector unit, and lift the EGR spacer plate off the intake. Chisel out all of the carbon crap you can, and clean out what you can get down in the intake ports. Pull the valve off and clean it up, and clean out the ports where it bolts to. Vacuum up the chunks, re-assemble, and go for a drive. The aluminum intake does not have a seperate EGR spacer, so the only thing you can do is unbolt the valve itself and clean inside the holes. If you have the EGR cooler back there, which is an oval shaped doohickey with 2 coolant lines, make sure you clean that out really well too.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

cool thanx! yeah that does sound simpler than what the guy was doing. but mine isnt fuel injected. its a carb. does that make a difference or is it the same as you described? (i am seriously mechanically disinclined so i do apologize for all the questions)1985 Mercury Grand Marquis "Shelley"

yours is fuel injected it's throttle body injection(CFI) unless its a canadian model. take off the air cleaner you will see the throttle body on it with 2 fuel injectors.

made in vs made FOR is the real issue here.
for the most part, only 351s had carbs, the 302s had CFI. The only way to really tell is to take the air cleaner lid off and peek in there.
the only panther I have that wasn't made in Canada is the 82 Lincoln. (VIN starts with 1)
All of them were made FOR the US though.

and yes... to see which country they were made FOR... look at the speedometer. MPH as the major marks is US... otherwise Canada.
of course... assuming that the speedo has never been swapped out.

Well damn i was hoping it was one of those last produced at the St. Louis plant before it shut down in 85. But far as the speedometer goes, it doesnt look like it was ever tampered with or changed out. I will have to get back under the hood and take some pix of under the air filter.... Seriously gotta get to a computer... anyways I do appreciate you guys answering my questions and being patient with me1985 Mercury Grand Marquis "Shelley"
