    Passenger Side Cat Attack

Hey there guy well I have a loud and noisy exhaust or so i'm told. But manly I need to get the piece right after the manifold on the passenger side the parts guy and garage said I need to get a new cat is there any way around this not really in the mood to spend 300$ plus the rest of the exhaust needs doing. Thanks

does Quebec have smog testing? $300 for a cat sounds expensive(may be O.E.M.),try to price an after market one.

umm. . . I have no idea but personally I would just rather have no cats just 2 pipes front to back the end. But I don't want to buy a cat cause it comes with a flex pipe and thats pretty much what I need.

if it's for the pictured GM (your avatar) you can get direct-fit bolt-on cats. Not sure of the going rate in Canada, but I put magnaflow cats on my 88mgm and it runs great. I took the lower end of the air injection system off (from the diverter valve to the cats) and replaced the diverter valve with one for an 85 5.0 mustang (has the filter on the down side instead of another pipe). as for the air injection lines on the side of the cats, I just plugged them with very large bolts. Passed emission testing here (Texas, Dallas area) with flying colors. If you're subject to visual inspections... you may not get by with that stunt.

well its hard to explain I need the part that if connected to the manifold people tell me that, thats the cat. Well some where when the pipe flexes it's cracked auto parts store wants 250 plus tax. But I was maby wondering if one would fit off a F-150 or mustang or some thing.

There are no flex pipes on these cars. There are 4 cats, two per side. They are in the pipes coming down off the manifold. If you do not have to pass an emissions test, then a shop can just make you pipes to connect from the manifolds down. If you do have emissions tests, then you're going to need converters. Most shops can make you a set of manifold pipes with universal replacement converters for a lot less than direct fit OEM types.

F150 parts won't fit. Mustang stuff sorta fits but you need to replace the manifolds with headers, and the entire rest of the exhaust system needs to be somewhat customized. The stock stuff won't even be remotely close to fitting up to Mustang cat pipes.

Alrighty I never really though about making just a piece of pipe connected to the manifold pretty good idea. But if I remove all 4 cats and make just 2 pipes from front to back, well I know it going to be loud as hell but will the car run ok if I take all 4 out. Thanks.

It will run fine, I have no idea what Quebec has for emissions but look into it first. Put mufflers on, as the cops love guys with straight pipes.

Buy a set of catalytic converter shells that are hollow, then the cops wont say nothing and as long as you have no emmisions test, then your okay. I had a set of cats i could have sold you but i got $70 for 2 at a scrap yard...

I wouldn't run it without mufflers at all, it will tend to attract attention. Duals with cheap mufflers will keep people from harassing you too much.

k great info thanks. But now I am planning on running with no cats just pipes after the manifold all the way to the back but I am debating on flowmaster$ or cherry bomb. I'm leaning more to the cherry bomb since there cheap and sound great the flowmasters sound like every other mustang around there.

You'll want an H pipe too. These things lose torque with straight duals. Not much power there to give up so you don't want to sacrifice anything you don't have to.
