    5.0 remote TFI distributor question

Has anybody tried to use a later 5.0 remote TFI distributor in their box? can you do it on a stock 86 speed density car or do you have to convert to maf? I have also been thinking about just changing out the tfi module and the coil for performance aftermarket pieces from pertronix.

the wiring is a fair bit different but theres no real reason you couldn't splice the harness in. Another option is to simply make a harness to connect from the 3 pins on top of the TFI to where they go on the side of the distributor, and remote mount it that way. You need a heatsink so the TFI doesn't cook itself, but thats not too hard. The pickup wiring also does pass straight through the TFI module, so you could even do the extension harness using a section of TFI harness robbed from a donor car, and leave a dud module on the distributor as a connection point.
