been doing some searches here and on other forums - whats the honest opinion here of you guys though? is it worth it to do a MAF conversion or just tune the ECU with a tweecer? for reference i've got the explorer engine and mark 7 ECU in the car now.

mass air VS tweecer

Stock Explorer motor should run fine with an un-tuned Mark VII ECM, so to be perfectly honest I wouldn't do either unless there seems to be a need to.
If there is some issue, probably its a little cheaper to switch it to mass air. That will gain you some flexibility and allow an easier path for upgrades in the future. The tweecer is also compatible with all the mass air ECMs so if you want to add that on down the road, you could. I went mass air on mine mostly to try and get a little better fuel economy. The car also ran lean on the dyno, so I knew something wasn't fully right. I did get a little better economy with the mass air, but it also runs smoother. Haven't had it back on the dyno to see if the a/f issues have been fixed but it does pull somewhat stronger. On the other hand, I've driven bone stock Explorer motor powered cars with an untuned Mark VII ECM and they ran perfectly. Tom's ran fucked up for no reason we could ever determine.Last edited by gadget73; 01-09-2010, 01:33 PM.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

what gadget said..
the eec has to be compatible with tweecer. you have no benefit of either on a relatively stock engine anyways..Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will promptly forget that he once did not know, and proceed to call anyone who asks, a n00b and flame them on the boards for being stupid.

as far as I am aware, TwEECer only supports the D9S mark 7 SD ECM. it supports one other SD Mustang ECM, but I forget the catch code.
unless you're running a large duration camshaft, larger injectors, forced induction and or more displacement, the stock ECM tuning is very adaptable to stock parametersLast edited by 88grandmarq; 01-09-2010, 02:37 PM.2003 Town Car Signature - 3.27 RAR, Dual exhaust and J-mod - SOLD 9/2011

if you're planning to do a cam, then I'd probably suggest mass air. It will adapt to a wider range of cams. Just be aware that if you have an 88+, you lose cruise control with the mass air ECM unless you convert it to stand-alone cruise from an older model, or piggy-back the ECMs to retain the stock one for cruise functions, and use the mass air one for engine management. Personally I think that process sounds more complex, and the ECM is a lot bigger than the stand-alone cruise module so it would be more difficult to do.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
