Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if you can run GT 40 heads, a stock Mustang HO cam and 1.6 rockers and have sufficient piston to valve clearance on a stock shortblock in a 1989 Town Car. I always thought I had read that it should be ok, but i just picked up a high performance Ford Engine parts interchangeability book and it says that you should not use GT 40 heads on motors with pistons that do not have valve reliefs. Has anyone used these on their cars with a similar setup? I was going to run a GT 40 Explorer intake with a 65mm TB on it.

you will be fine.......the low output pistons are dished instead of having valve reliefs......i've had conversations with some mustang guys a few yrs back when i was in search of a low mile ho shortblock for my town car, that prefer to use the lopo shortblock......one guy was trying to sell me a 89 townie shortblock with about 100,000 miles in stock form then got the engine from the junkyard and put twisted wedge heads on it and i forget what cam and a 100 shot and he was running 11.06 in a fox mustang.....keep the lift under .500"
