    Coolant Leak - sometimes !?

    This is wierd.

    Saw coolant dripping quite fast (1 drip per second) under the car after it had been stopped for 10 mins. PANIC!

    Drove 10 ft into the garage, got under with a trouble light. Leak had stopped. Ran engine for a while to get coolant hot (and pressure up). Nothing.

    Radiator = Full
    Overflow Reservoir = Half Full (normal for me)

    The tell-tale dried green water SEEMS to be from near where the lower water hose meets the water pump.

    All I can think of is that if the bearing/seal of the water pump is in a specific situation when I stop the engine then it leaks ???. When the car is running it does not leak.

    Hoses seemed to be Ok and tight.

    Before I go pulling off the water pump - any comments?

    I had that same issue with my diesel radiator, turned out my cold tank had the seam cracked a bit - when engine was running the crack would seal itself, then upon cool-down it would open up a bit and drips would occur. So check your radiator carefully, maybe it's getting old and things don't seal quite as good as they did when new?

      I had the same thing happen to me. Sounds like the bearing seal is leaking and coming out the weep-hole. Which, if so, means you need to replace the water pump.

      Here's the thread from when I had this problem, should be helpful to you.

          I would look at the small heater hose's first. I replaced the the little by-pass hose, then found a pin hole in the heater hose behind the coil.

            sounds like water pump. A pressure test with the engine cold should show it.
