    hoses

n00b questions: Most, if not all of the hoses/lines I see under the hood are old, shitty looking, and in some cases cracked (not all the way thru). Basically any rubber/plastic looks like shit. I want shiny new ones.

Vanity aside, I figure chances are pretty good that replacing any old ones with new ones could only be a good thing for the car and its systems anyway.

Now: I don't have a fucking clue how to go about finding out what exactly it is I need, finding said parts, and putting them on.

not as easy to tell in the pic since I didn't even get the whole engine bay

As said above, the molded hoses will be behind the counter and the rest such as your vac lines and heater core lines you can get in bulk. Just dont go ripping all the hoses off at once, replace them one at a time. Ask me how I know.

I think I can probably figure out how you know - I'll take your advice Last thing I wanna do is take a chance that I'd fuck up my baby.

What do I say when I go lookin' for new hoses? "Hey, gimme a bag of those tiny hoses/lines"? How do I know what I need as far as molded ones go? I know nothing of these things but am eager to learn.

You need to take a line in for size comparison. I have no original molded vacuum lines on my car. The only one thats really nice to have is the stock PCV valve hose. The rest are just hose. Problem is, many are different sizes at each end, so you have to get creative with it. The plastic lines i got rid of years ago in favor of regular bulk hose with zip ties to mark what is what. Been meaning to replace the zip ties with some small pieces of heat shrink tube for marking but I haven't gotten around to it.
