    Finished the HO swap

First off, sorry for the non geo post. Just thought this could help someone.

Finished the HO swap today that the previous owner started. On first start up it started very easily and idled fine. I got out of the car and it began detonating a few times but before I could shut it off it smoothed out and ran great.

I know a lot of you guys have done the swap but looking through previous posts and even the sticky revealed a few questions that seemed to have no answer.

    1. A HO motor will run with the lopo 14lb injectors, stock wiring harness, and lopo ecm. A few cyls will inject at the wrong time but it idles smooth and runs without a problem.

    2. 1990 Town Car's came stock with E7 heads. Or at least have the same spark plug threads. I ran across two 1990 Town Car's at parts galore and both had the same heads I have.

    3. A HO motor will not run with lopo 14lb injectors and a HO ecm. It will rev fine but it stalls at idle but never back fired or knocked for me. I did not drive it this way, only tested to see if the ecm actually worked.

    4. I have the stock fuel pump and it seems to run fine.

Now a question about #4. Do you guys think I would benifit at all by swapping out the stock pump for a walbro f20000169 (255lph) that I have sitting around?

    Thanks.

The stock pump is OK. I ran my car with the original pump for quite a while before upgrading it when the fuel tank sprung a leak. I have a 125 lph unit now, but it made no difference in performance. I replaced it only because the tank had to be replaced, and I didn't see any point in installing a 20 year old pump in a brand new tank.

I'm running a 255lph on a stock H.O. My fuel pump went out and i plan on turbo down the road is why so big but yeah it works great. Sounds like a monster when it primes the injectors before start up haha.

1> Would be interesting to see how lean it runs.
2> Some pictures would be nice to truly verify that. I've never heard of that and the thread diameter and pitch are the same, it's the seating and depth of the hole in the head.

            3>I'm sure that's been mentioned...

4> Yes, true. Many have used the stock pump. With some mods it's a good idea to upgrade to a 110. A 255 will just make a lot of noise and heat the fuel up.

              1. It threw no codes, i know its an odb1 but wouldn't the comp throw up at least o2's? I don't know how long the po drove it like this but I drove it for a month without any problems.

              2. I have no pics except for the one I took of mine.

The shiney part is the thread.

Both junkyard cars had this thread depth. Head swaps on both cars is a possibility but not probable.

              3. I read more than a few times that it probably wouldn't run. I was just confirming.

              4. I'll stick with the stock pump until mods make it nessecary to upgrade. Probably won't reach that point though.

I guess I neglected to say that I did use 19lb injectors with my swap.

Got a HO upper, HO tb, 19lb injectors, bored out stock egr spacer, Mark VII LSC ecm. The motor was already in the car when I bought it. http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthread.php?t=28236 this thread kinda explains the road up to this point.

All in all the swap only cost me $110 for all parts and machine work. Gota get some headers and nice dual exhaust next. Gona try to keep it a sleeper and use some quietish mufflers like thrush turbos.

Interesting, because all the parts listings I've seen show the E6 plugs...Will have to check em out next time I see a 90 TC.

Hard to tell the depth from that pic... I wouldn't put it past ford to have put e7s on the towncars.

The factory reccomended plug info from the fan shroud would be telling. ASF42C is what an E7 head takes. AWSF44C I think is what an E6 takes.

Yes... E7 head takes a different spark plug from the E6 head.
E6 head uses an extended tip plug, E7 head does not.

why are you using 19lb injectors and HO ECM? do you have the HO cam installed?
No need for 19lb injectors or HO ECM if you are running stock, non-HO cam.

The motor in my car is either a mustang or explorer motor. It uses the HO firing order. It was like that when I bought it so I don't know which motor is in it, I just know it uses the HO firing order.
