    Another Exhaust Question!

Alright guys, What do these cars sound like straight piped out the back? I'm on a budget and would like a better sound out of my '88 I now the cats restrict alot of sound but I was first thinking glass packs for the price, then I was thinking I have some junk mufflers I can cut open Empty weld in a straigt through pipe and then weld them shut and face the butchered side up for inspection. Anybody have a sound clip of a straight piped car? this is staying with the stock 2 1/4 exhaust.

Stock 2.25? Nope, barely 2". And it sounds like ass. My old car had straightpipes. I only did it because it was cheap.

I thought about doing that with my old Vic, just gutting the cats and muffler, but I thought that would sound bad due to it being a single exhaust. A jy car with duals will be really cheap, just snag the h-pipe and everything else back except the muffler. That should be within your budget, and there are a few cheap performace muffler options out there, glasspacks being one of them. Good luck with that.

And before anyone tells me to shut up cuz i've never worked with exhaust before, I helped my uncle put a catback exhaust on his Ram.

The car already has dual exhaust. I was just curious. and the 2.25" was just a gues, I figured it wouldn't be smaller but I guess I was mistaken. What is the stock mustang H pipe size? I have one along with the stock headers, but the exhaust on my '88 is in great shape and I really wsn't gonna mess with it too much for now.

I had a strait single pipe on the 85 for a while, and it sounded GREAT not bratty or redneckish at all. I could not MAKE it crackle even if i tried. Lemme see if i can find a sound clip.... the cats and long tailpipe(s) take away some of the snotty strait-pipeishness

My car has straight thru, no cats, true dual (no x or y pipe) exhaust with shorty headers, and a pair of 2-chamber flows. Click the link in my sig and turn it up. It sounds raw, if that's what you're going for.

You shot yourself in the foot on that one.

Clearly you don't understand that a dodge ram is about as similar to a panther as my cock is to a cabbage. And last I checked, my cock is NOWHERE similar to a cabbage!!

Now, shut up, and quit trying to supplement your pathetic post count with bullshit suggestions, because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

If I have to tell you again, i'm rolling back the odometer.

You can roll back the odometer for this post, but I gotta ask, how is a Ram's exhaust that much different then a Panther's? Are the hangers and hanging locations that much different that even after working on an exhaust on a Ram that i'd have no clue what to do on a Panther? I have a hard time believing that they're that much different, but I guess i'll have to see for myself.

And how was my suggestion bullshit? I saw nothing wrong with it, besides the fact that i've never seen his car so I didn't know it already had duals. I'm sorry that I hadn't read through every one of his posts to see pics of the car myself, I do have a life, somewhat.

                        One's a pickup, one's a car.

                        1. I am willing to bet the ram didn't come with 2 separate cats.

                        2. This is a panther forum, and a thread about exhaust on a PANTHER. Not a dodge ram.

                        3. Show me a pic of a panther exhaust, and a dodge ram exhaust. If they line up, you can argue.

A Ram has two cats attached to the downpipes, then there's a y-pipe and it's single all the way back. I realize that both exhausts aren't exactly the same, but they aren't totally different to mount.

I have a new ram i can get you pics of the exhaust from. theres a cat on each side then after the 2 halves meet together into the single pipe theres a 3rd cat then its straight from that to the tailpipe. The only thing I've done was swap a stainless magnaflow muffler in place so everything else will be stock includign the flange locations. I'm willing to bet the exhaust are dissimilar enought to warrant seperate part #'s :p
