    Another Exhaust Thread...

Alright This may have been asked before I have no Idea I searched but got tired of sifting through all the posts.

alright I plan on doing my exhaust as cheap as possible. My main concern is the over axle pipes. would the ones from a Mark 7 work? I'm going to snag the H pipe and headers from a 90 LSC If the Over axle pipes will work then I'm gonna grab those. Next question is how much straight pipe is used on each side after the cats to a normal muffler like a super turbo? I'd go out an measure but my car is parked at a farm 20 miles away. Summit sells Exhaust piping in 2.25 diameter in 4ft lengths for $11 plus $6 oversized shipping. so I'm gonna order 2 of them since I know one isn't enough. then finish it off with some chrome or polished tails. What length tails look good/work on these cars? 18"?

    thanks in advance, Dave

Get the tails and straight pieces frm advance or an exhaust shop. Advance (partsamerica) had the 2.5" impala tails for less than summit. DO NOT USE those POS lincoln pipes. They are less than 2", and have so many bend in them it's not funny- I doubt they would fit anyway.

Try buying your header's and muffler's a piece at a time then go to a good shop so you can get the pipes welded up for cheap. do you mind having a side exit exhaust since that would be pretty cheep (less pipe means less price) and buying up your own parts also means you get to shop around

I want the exhaust out the rear not the sides. I can do the Exhaust work myself no problem. I just want to know where I can get the cheapest over axle pipes. I'd steal them off a factory Dual exhaust car or something but they are a smaller Diameter and every yard I've gone to has had no Dual exhaust boxes. On PI but the exhaust was terrible since it was sitting on the ground on the brakes.

OK 2-1/2 is the mustang size I don't remember how long the pipes are for for Vic's but I have heard one with boom tubes and it sounded cool it was a nice low sound

If your car is bone stock and you are on the cheap, get stock vic tails from advance. They fit nice at least.

Then install the headers and H-Pipe, and size up what muffler type you'll need and how much pipe you'd need.

The Mark VII pipe is, what, 2 1/4?. Stock tails should be enough, but the Impy ones fit too, with an addition on the end to replace the stock Impy mufflers.

Ok, for a 5.0 Vic or Mustang, would these parts fit without much trouble?

I may be missing something, but could all these parts come together and work for a Vic or a Mustang?

Any of the short length headers should fit the Vic and I would go with the universal X pipe and those mufflers would fit but for a little bit more $ you could get something better and still be in budget.
The system for the police car with the new engine is going to be ...BBK equal length headers/two 3 inch removable hi-flow cats/the 3 inch X pipe/two 1 chamber flowmaster mufflers and 3 inch tailpipes with 4 inch boom tube's. I hope that this helps... post jack!!!
This is capridrifters cousin, the actual owner of the car. When I got it the exhaust on the car was probably the cheapest you can get and the exhaust was not that old. The mufflers literally rotted from the inside out and I got horrible gas mileage. My advice to you would be spend a little extra money and get something good. It will save you money in the long run and if you take my idea the car will sound orgasmic. If you do take our advice please send me a recording so I have something to look forward too when I finally save the money that I need to do all of this to my wonderful Vicky.

88 - those headders are for a trcuk. you want mustang ones.

the cats you show alreay have the H pipe in them

The X pipe you linked is universal for lots of vehicles, and the cats are supposed to be in that area - it has no flanges, dont get that.

                    dunno bout the mufflers

Dammit DONT USE STOCK SIZE TAILS!!!!! They are the second worst part of the stock exhaust. Get the 2.25" impy tails at least or just leave your exhaust bone stock with some aftermarket 2" replacement mufflers.

offset/offset are the mufflers you need, so yes those will work. Agree with MrLTD about the tailpipes though. Not much point doing 2.5" to the back of the muffler then choking it down to a 2" stock tailpipe.

two and a half is a good size for a 5.0 but if you want to supercharge or use nitrous oxide go with three inch pipes and a free flowing muffler.
