    Oil brand

I use royal purple 10w 30 oil in my 03 grand marquis 200,000 miles is it a good choice of oil to use

    #2
royal purple is great stuff... but the cheap synthetic is more than good enough for any panther engine with stock internals. If you're running big boost and forged internals and actually racing occasionally, I would say it would be worth it, but I'm not that big on spending money, so I use the cheap stuff from walmart in the 03 PI engine in my 93. Regular synth blend in the 2000 (same thing the dealers would use), and old dino oil in the 88 302 that likes to leak a quart per 750-1000 miles.

tl;dr yeah, it's good, but spendy. Cheaper options are just as good for your car too.

If you want to run synthetic you can run the cheap stuff. Your paying for a name with Royal Purple.

If you change it often enough you can run cheap dino! I use the Ford Semi-Synth because I can't do my own oil changes anymore so have the dealer do it with coupons. I get it done for between $20-30, once a year, 5 qts. and FL1-A filter. Got a total of 3 cars and the 4th change is always free. Works for me....

Mine get whatever synthetic is on sale. Often its WalMart, but if I'm at the parts store and they are running a special on something, it gets that. I change it often enough that it doesn't matter. I don't put a lot of miles on anything so it often ends up being once a year whether it needs it or not.

A different viscosity might be used because of region or some other reason. Someone might chime in as to why their running something a tad different.

4.6s were originally spec'd for 5W-30 and then rated for 5W-20. You can run either in it and it should be fine.

I'm running Valvoline Full Synthetic 5W-30 with a traditional Motorcraft FL-820S filter. Everything has been good since I've started using it.

Gets purty cold where you're at so 5w30 is a solid choice for your 89. Owners manual suggests either depending on climate. I've got 10w30 Valvoline Synpower in my 88 right now but will change it to 5w30 next time.
