    just checking in.

    Good morning Folks.

After spending a few hours swapping a fuel pump on my 1986 Town Car last night, I decided it was time I popped in and created an account here. I found an excellent tutorial complete with photos on here someplace that was of significant assistance, and allowed me to get 'ol reliable back up and running for the snowy morning commute today, with only a few scraped knuckles

I had a lengthy conversation with one of you, perhaps the site's founder? (I'm sorry. I do not remember your name) at Carlisle this last year, where I was showing my 1997 Mark VIII. You dispensed a tremendous amount of ignition system advice that was immediately put to successful use upon my return. 327,000 miles on the old Town Car, and she's still going. The experience of folks like you is indispensable.

    Thanks!

Welcome. Sounds like you spoke with Scott or Thain. They are the brains for sure.

Indeed it was. Thanks for the good advice and the warm welcome. After I returned from Carlisle, I replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and ignition module. No more misbehaving after damp nights. Thanks!

that reminds me. I've got a stupid "noob" story for you folks. in the process of replacing the ignition module, I couldn't quite get to one of the bolts. "No problem" I thought. I removed the bolt that secures the distributer, yanked it out, swapped the module, and shoved it back in. it wasn't until I was in the process of re-tightening that bolt where I thought. "Shoot. I'll bet I should have paid attention to the direction that thing was pointing when I pulled it out.." Sure enough, I turned the key, and not even a pop.

              panic..
              panic..

after a bit of digging, I came up with a service manual that was "close enough" for the Ford V8, a timing light, and the knowledge that I needed to unplug the spout connector to make adjustments. *whew!* Next time, I'll be more careful.
