Believe that if you want, but this is not a 50s car, it has a bigger engine with much better heads, and much more cam. You will not be able to get over 20 mpg consistantly without a 30mph tail wind.

Most 50's cars had at least 300+ ci. Its just their compression ratios were pathetic. They weighed a ton too.

I saw an article where they tuned a Holley double pumper carb to 20+ MPG. It was doe on a chassis dyno with wideband O2's and Vacum guages and a competent carb tuner. This was alos on a performance motor.

I regularly get 24 with my EFI on road trips.

there is no debate. EFI will always be better.

The difference is, you knocked down 21mpg on a single trip, where as EFI will do it evey time. The planets don't have to be aligned for it to work perfect.
