I keep tightening the thing down, and it always comes loose and clunks around. Anyone find a good way to stop the jack from falling out?

I would suggest putting a drop of superglue on the threads after you get it tight. It will keep it from backing off due to vibration, but will crumble when you put any real force on it.
Make sure to use the liquid, as gel won't creep into the threads. If that isn't tough enough, they make a type of loc-tite for a similar purpose.Owner of the only known 5 speed box wagon with a lift kit.

Dunno what it is, I really don't drive the car that hard. The only thing that could be doing it is the acceleration. The DC potholes and just plain horrid roads probably have a lot to do with it.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

Well, it's the fact that it's a mini spare and has all the room to move fore and aft. I'm gonna put some foam in there to keep it in place. Might be a moot point anyway, because I want to get a 16" spare in there. Would be nice to not have to change 2 tires if I get a flat front tire.Builder/Owner of Badass Panther Wagons

I got tired of the factory hook setup after a couple years and just strapped the spare in with a rubber tiedown cord. It's been quiet since, and it's way easier to get the spare wheel out than messing with that annoying screw setup. The jack just rides in the cargo pit with a lug wrench and whatever other junk I'm carrying back there.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!
