Stock Wagon Tailpipe Exit Locations

Where did your original exhaust exit? Right behind the rear wheel or farther back next to the rear bumper (both side exit of course). Include the year of your car.

I'm trying to find a matching drivers side tailpipe that exits right behind the drivers side rear wheel.

Also, a pic of factory dual exhaust hangers on a wagon would be helpful.

both 88s exit behind the wheel and the 85s exits at the bumper...im goin through the bull of deciding where i want my duels but, im pretty sure im having them behind the rear tire.

I can't find a drivers side tailpipe that exits behind the rear wheel! I've checked all years I think. They have single exhaust wagon exiting behind the rear wheel, but it seems duals always come out at the bumper.

Looks like I may have to modify another sedan tailpipe. I don't want to buy another passenger side tailpipe.

In my investigation, I checked into something 1987cp told me before. He said '90-'91 tailpipes were cheaper. Indeed.

iv seen a vic wagon with them but who knows if it was stock. im sure an exhaust shop could fab one up. or you can buy a sedan one and jus use the part that goes over the axle then that gives you an excuse to put tips on...thats what im doin.

I only have single, exits right behind the wheel.

Single, wheel exit. All the ones I've seen are right behind the rear wheel exit.

factory wagon duals never exited behind the wheels only the singles.. for what ever reason the duals always went to the bumper almost.

That'd be interesting to see, since it probably looks a little better. I sort of hated the stock behind-the-wheel exit location on the passenger side, though, because any soot produced went right onto the spare tire well to promote corrosion.

I have the '90-'91 Walker pipes on my '79 because they're the cheapest of the replacement stuff, and they exit all the way back. Doesn't look the best, but it's quiet and the exhaust gases won't be messing with anything out there. Ordered them along with some '95 Caprice mufflers because those have the same case size with 2.25" inlets .... the guys at NAPA thought I was nuts. For the price, it's sort of more efficient to just buy or make nice mandrel-bent performance pipes unless you really, really want 2".

45 degrees, after the rear wheels would look pretty good... put on some chrome rolled tips...

Maybe my tailpipes have been replaced, but they look about the same age and condition as the stock cats. I added the chrome tips. You can't tell from this picture, but they come out in front of the bumper, in line with the leading edge of the taillight.

I had the same problem when I switched my exhaust from single to duals a couple of years ago. Didn't like the way back bumper exit. It would just drag on the pavement around here. There are some pretty wicked parking lot entrances here in the old parts of St. Louis, and I drag the trailer hitch about once a month. If it wasn't for the hitch, the bumper would be draggin (and definately any exhaust that would be back there).
So, I went with the single exhaust pipe for the right side, and got the long exhaust for the left side and cut it down. Modded a standard 90 exhaust fitting from AutoZone to get the angle and location close to the right side, and clamped it all together and used a universal hanger up to the frame. It's not an exact match, but it's close, and you'd never be able to tell unless you are really looking for it.
