    Odd problem...

Ok, Today I go out to work on the Merc. I've been wanting to get some interior work done so I pull the passenger seat out. I pull the door panel on the passenger side because the window jumps and jossels around when it comes down so I figure it needs some grease on the track. I grease it up and the jumping goes away. I move it up and down a few times to make sure it's good. now the window switch will only put the window down and the lock/unlock button only locks... and the driver side switch won't bring the window up? I'm confused, I tried to push the window up through the speaker hole, no go. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance, Dave

are both symptoms happening on both door panels?

could you have disturbed any grounds?

The sympton of the window staying down is on the passenger side door. The passenger side door the switches seem to only work one way (can only lock doors and roll down window. the drivers side control won't bring the window up though either. I looked for any grounds I could have hit but didn't see any.

Might be the switch shit the bed. The way they work, its possible for one side to lose connection internally and then neither switch will operate the motor. My seat switches did that to me.

so the switches are wired in a series or something? this just happened out of the blue, the window switch still makes the window go down, but It won't go back up. I can here the motor click when I try to do anything so I think the switch is still working but the motor may just dies or something? it was just out of the blue. The motor still brought the window down though like normal no odd sounds or anything.

you got it - if you can hear the motor, it means the plastic bushings in the gears are worn... some times they are there enough to let it down, but not enough for the resistance of putting it back up.
You should be able to "help" the window back up, yes?
you can get a bushing kit for under 10 bucks and fix her up.

As for the lock, Id definitly say the switch is bad.
I was actually playing with a vic at work today that has the exact same symptoms...
The guy is trying to sell it and at first said "everythings good" when I asked him if anything was wrong with it.
when I asked him about the 3 windows that didnt work right, 2 bum power door locks and the bad switch, he was like "oh, some little things like that dont work"
I guess the washer sprayer, power antenna and left blinker were part of that too, lol

hhmmmmm... it could still be the bushings even if you cant hlep it back up.

Id pull the door panel and watch the tracks while is moves or not, try to see whats going on.

I have to replace my passenger window motor again... I put new bushings in it, then I had to swap in some 50% life junkyards brushes because they wore out... then 2 years later it gets stuck down again as it started to rain.
I pulled the door panel and tapped the motor with a big socket and it went right back up (brushes).
So I said screw it... gimmie a re-man motor. $55 with employee discount... ouch!!!

Well I guess I'm gonna pull a few motors next time I'm at the yard. Now I have the ghettoness of a Plastic window... Car isn't on the road but it is still stupid. I have to pull the driver side rear motor aswell since that went out before I purchased the car but that window can be manually put up and down with your hands.
