    Seat motors

    I have been looking into getting a replacement front seat motor for my 89 before they become unobtanium. I found the part number and plugged it into a few places. And I found something interesting.

    This is the original part, number E5VF-14547-AA:





    This is another motor that's much easier to find which was used in the Sable and some Taurus models, part number E8DF-14547-AA:






    I dunno about you, but to me they look completely identical save for the length of the cable.

    Now, from what I understand about Ford part number architecture, the first set of digits just indicates the date. The second set of digits indicates the part, and the third indicates the location and/or trim. So as far as I can tell, these are exactly the same part with a longer cable, which I can fix easily.

    What do you guys think?

    pinout may also be different, but that can always be remedied.

      You'd also need to make sure the socket where the drive shaft goes in matches up, but frankly there are only so many ways to make a motor. Ford used virtually the same window motor from the early 1960s through the end of the 80s, the only real change along the way was the connector plug. Would not surprise me in the least if the Taurus motor could be matched up to a panther seat frame and work fine.

        Yeah, sounds like Ford alright.

        Well I think it's certainly worth the difference in cost to give it a shot. Let's see what happens.

          I decided to just say "fuck it" and buy both. I was right, they are completely identical except for the cable length. Same wires, same placement of the wires, same connectors, same holes, same dimensions, they even came in the same Nissan parts bags with the same Nissan parts still inside.









          If you're curious, the Nissan parts were front axle C-clips for a Nissan Pathfinder.



          So this should pretty much double the odds of finding a part and cost less doing so. Hopefully this helps someone.

              Cool, thanks for the feedback. All the time I see threads where people find a possible solution but never bother to tell anyone if it does actually work out.

                Yes. Much appreciated. Any clue on changing the motor out? Never delved into that one myself and just wondering.

                Confused about the nissan reference though.....

                  The motors were both shipped in bags for Nissan parts, and they didn't take the parts out of the bags first. They're the same size bag containing the same part (front axle C-clips) with the same part number sticker on them. It's kinda strange.

                  Can't help you with changing them right now, the process is quite a ways off for me at the moment. The transmission barely works and the differential needs rebuilt. I'm driving a 2003 Sentra right now. (And I don't like it very much.)

                  I do have the Ford service manuals though, so I'll see about getting some photos of the pages that might help and posting them here tomorrow.

                    Same wires as in color? So you can cut the sable connector off and crimp or solder the crown Vic connector on?

                      also can't say I've got any experience on the seat motor situation. I should pull mine apart and regrease the motors and the track since they are so slow, but its been one of those deals where I justify not doing it because I rarely move the seat.

                        They have the same connector. Literally the only difference between the two is the Sable motor has a longer cable.


                        I took a picture of all the pages I could find that were relevant. The file sizes are pretty big because I wanted them to be as legible as possible, so I had to make a Dropbox. They're in a .rar file. Might be out of order or rotated wrong, but all the information I could find is there.

                          Should be enough wire coming up out of the floor to use with the shorter Sable harness I'd think. Failing that it wouldn't be a big deal to extend it.
