    Rear defrost...does mine work!? no clue

    so my merc has a rear defrost switch on the climate control panel. but it doesnt click or stay in place.. you push it up or down and it just springs back to the middle... im sure i have the defrost becsue i have the lines on the back window with the wire connecting. im just curious what up with that switch?

    The switch does not stay in its secondary position. It works like a push button. Push it once-on, push it down again-off. The little orange indicator light should light up to tell you its on. The bulb might be burnt out though. Best way to see if it works, get the glass foggy(gigidy goo) and turn it on. In a minute or two, the fog should clear around the grid.

      Yep, only obvious indication is the little light, and it's 30 years old now so who knows. Test by fogging up the window. If it still doesn't work, you may have a minute breakage in the electrified lines on the window. I repaired mine with a <$10 kit from a local parts store. Easier than burnouts in a viper on ice.

        hmmm... ill have to chec k out that little lightbulb... ive never noticed one.. and im almost positive the defrost doesnt work
