My 89 LS has a combination dome and map unit that is pretty nice. I do not know your wiring is setup. Maybe there is no constant hot up there for map lights. Take a look.

I thought someone on here but a whole unit from a newer GM in their box. It had the sunglasses holder and all that crap. So anything is possible.
If you need to run a hot up there you can tap off the visor lights if you have them.
If not running wires up top is easy in these cars because the headliner has frames that clip on/off easy.

The larger chrome dome light you find in other boxes will install right in. Also ones from 90's panthers will too, and you can find one that color matches your interior. Dave has one of those in his I believe. No wiring needed, all the electric contacts are made by the screw mounts.
I have one that just came out of my '91 that I'm parting out, but I need to clean it up and get some pics. Also, you won't find a good lens/center cover as they are all yellow with age by now, but there's a link around here somewhere for gettting a crystal clear new replacement dome light cover.

must be a thing for the newer cars then... because my original white plastic one in my 77 was perfect.. a bit brittle but still white.. same with my merc. its perfectly clear too as you can see in the pic
