    Glove box latch

Is there a better way to replace the latch than just getting a junkyard piece? Something I should know about? My second one just broke on my 84 Vic

The "Help" section at the auto parts store usually has the new replacement part in black without the lock for maybe $6.00. If you wanted to use the new parts to rebuild your existing latch maybe that is possible but I have not tried it.

I may have to check this out. I was recently following one on ebay..It was black and without a lock. The clasps were black as well. Even though I did not need one it interested me because of the color and uniqueness.

those little potmetal scissor things inside are what break. Just swap them over and you'd have a working latch with your old components.

Yep. I currently have a black cover and quite like it. Offsets the beige nice in my opinion.

The latch is held in by a slide clip. Easy to change.

This is how I did it as well to keep the same lock and key:

If you really want the lock cylinder out of the latch there are two tabs on the back that hold it in place. Pry the tabs toward the outside and the lock cylinder will slide out the front.

Two pairs of needle nose pliers will work or if you can get one tab pried out of the way and put a little pressure on the back of the cylinder to keep the first tab from sliding back in you can move over and get the second tab.
