    Rusty hood latch and hinges

    What's the best lube for a rusty hood latch and hinges? WD-40 or lithium grease any good?

    white lithium grease is good to maintain latches n such. WD40 will clean and free them up and penitrate rust better but it dosent last long.

      Can I use the WD40 first, then the grease or just use the grease only?

        WD-40 to clean the old crap out, then silicone spray to keep it working. Lithium grease works well but its messy.

          WD40 for a while then pressure wash all that old shit out and apply grease.

            I used 3in1 oil on mine. It's lasted quite a long time, too. Nice not to have to push on the hood to close it, just drop it and go. :P

                    never use any type of silicone on your car. if that stuff gets in your paint it will never come out. then good luck gettin a good paint job after that. silicone is what causes fish eyes in your paint. it makes an easy into a very difficult one.

                      Too late, when I went to Autozone yesterday, the can of STP silicone spray didn't look to bad. I saw a blue can with SILICONE in bold letters, the STP symbol, I thought Richard Petty. So I bought a can. I used a few paper towels when I sprayed the stuff. It did it's job and I can use it on the weather stripping in the Winter.
