Dash Pad Color and SEM Light Titanium

My 1989 Grand Marquis has the light titanium interior but the dashpad is more or less dark brown. It is in beautiful shape, however, and I'm wondering if it is a replacement. Does anyone know if the dashpad is supposed to match the rest of the interior or provide some sort of contrast? I have a can of SEM Light Titanium I can use to dye it. Is that a good match? Thanks for your help.

Thanks. That was helpful and, it turns out, correct. After I read your reply I remembered that I have a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis brochure tucked away. I dug out my copy and it happens to have a picture of a Grand Marquis dash in light titanium. In the picture the pad appears to be a dark brown. Thanks for confirming that.

The real question is, do you like it the way it is? If not, dye or replace it.

My Fords and my Mercury came, SFAIK, with dashpads that matched the rest of the interior.

I have the contrasty pad in the Mark and the 88 as well.

1987cp, I actually don't mind it, since the darker color looks fairly handsome next to the gray. I bought a can of SEM Light Titanium to temporarily fix my steering wheel until I can put a new leather cover on in the spring or, ideally, find a NOS wheel. My car has 140,000 miles on it and the only place it really shows is the steering wheel, which has most of the dye worn off and is not all that pleasant to touch, at least for someone who is tactilely defensive. The lid of the can is an excellent match, but in my test spray on a white surface the color wasn't even close. I'm hoping that it will come out right on the wheel, but it doesn't really matter since it is just a temporary fix. I've got to give props to the eighty year old man who owned the car before me, though. Mechanically he kept on top of things, replacing the transmission, u-joints, belts, water pump, and on and on and on, regardless of cost. He kept all of his records, too, and he was meticulous about oil changes and regular service too. So I guess a shabby-looking wheel is fairly small potatoes.

Yeah, nice new leather steering wheel covers are nice. My favorite is still the one in my Colony Park where I got a leather cover that was too big, so I added a cheap foam cover to make up the difference. All the benefits of a stock wheel, plus a big rim!
