    Ignition Tumbler??

So I went to start the car to go to work last night, and the key wouldn't go in all the way.

I looked inside and it looks like one of the little pin thingys broke off or something.

So how do I fix this problem?

Hope you're able to get it out without violence! When I had a lock cylinder go, I spent about 45 minutes drilling and chiseling in order to get it out so I could replace it.

Is it a 90-91? Those type of cylinders are notorious for going bad - In mine the tumbler is loose and the thumb-wing turns all around, it sometimes gets mis-aligned and wont let you put the key in. Mine will let me twist it around while looking into it and get it to line up again.

                Well here's hoping against hope...

Is there any way to start the stupid thing seperate from the ignition? Like under the hood?

I'm trying to avoid paying $75 to tow it.

If all else fails, a locksmith visit might be cheaper than a tow ....

But like I said, my '87 lock cylinder required sustained violence to get it out. It involved a cordless drill, a hammer, and several chisels and screwdrivers, and I remember it coming out in under an hour.

This keeps getting better and better.

Since I can't move the gear out of park, they're gonna charge me an extra $20 to bypass the wheel lockout or something.

                      Sigh.

I take it you haven't attempted to remove the cylinder yourself?

No, I got someone else to fix it for me. That, and an oil change for $201.
