so today i finally have a perfectly working trunk pulldown system. some people did this to box cv's but had to use parts from both a mark vii and town car to work. today i will give you step by step directions on how to mount a trunk pulldown system on a box GM using all the parts from a 1985-1989 Town Car with the trunk pulldown system.
You will need from the town car
the motor lower latch
lower latch bracket
All the mounting screws
Upper latch assembly with key rod to the key latch
Long enough wiring harnesses from all wiring connections.
Optional stuff to get from town car
Lower latch cover
Upper trunk carpeting cover(Will need slight modification to work)
Step 1: Remove all the old trunk latching system from your box GM. Save all the screws in case you need extras. do not cut the wire from the trunk release solenoid just unclip it.
Step 2: Cut the old wiring grey plug attachement from the old trunk release solenoid with enough wiring to solder it to the new latch trunk release solenoid.
Step 3: On the lower latch bracket is 3 holes only 2 will bolt to the existing holes from the old latch bracket. those 2 holes will need to be enlarged top to bottom(not side to side) to allow you to move the lower latch further down for adjustments.
Step 4: Screw on the motor to the side of the lower latch bracket using the screws from it.
Step 5: Install the upper Latch system exactly like the old upper latch system it should bolt right up without modifications. Make sure to line it dead center with the lower latch.
Step 6: ON the top latch are 2 wires A red and brown wire. Attach an eyelet to the end of the brown wire and screw it onto one of the mounting bolts. this will act as a ground. the red wire needs to be extended to reach the red with black stripe wire on the lower latch motor.
Step 7: On the lower latch are 3 wires a black wire, a black wire with white stripe, and red wire with black stripe which you should have previously attached to the upper latches red wire. Put an eyelet on the black wire and screw it onto one the the mounting bolts for the latch to make a ground. Now run enough wire to the black with white stripe wire and splice it into the green/with yellow stripe wire found in the little harness running up to the trunk lid from the driver side. this is a hot wire and will activate the motor when the upper switch is depressed.
Step 8: You will need to weld your existing key latch rod to the town cars rod for enough length to turn the key solenoid. mi have yet to do this but i know it is not long enough alone.
Congratulations you successfully installed a Trunk Pulldown System on a box GM.
Heres a video of my installation.
