    Yellow floor mats? Yellow headliner..hood?

Yes this may sound weird but I love "yellow light". One of the rooms at my old house was yellow and it felt so warm and cheery. I want to replicate that sun warm feeling in the car so I'm thinking of a way to get a yellow reflecting surface. I was thinking maybe yellow floor mats? Or maybe spray the headliner yellow? Yellow headliner might give out more of a yellow hue in the interior.

I'm also thinking about painting the hood matte yellow with yellow as a base along with Hawaiian flower designs or something. What do you guys think? Is messing with the headliner playing with fire? I dont want to mess it up and find out its hard and expensive to replace something. Oh yeah, and I plan on painting the hood flat something anyways as its like a freakin mirror and reflects the sun and car lights into my face. Particularly when I go up the mountain to 14k feet at dusk or dawn, its IMPOSSIBLE to see sometimes so I got to fix this problem.

Oh yeah, my car is maroon.

I won't judge you on your choice of colour palette. I've heard yellow doesn't show up well on darker interiors, but it's worth a try.

This is a thread of a teggy with red dyed seats, though obviously he fails at masking, you get the idea. If you're careful, you can supposedly get good results on our thick pile carpetting with the same paint. I don't know about the headliner though.

Hum... Is my silver interior considered dark? I thought it was actually kinda a light grey. I have the velvet seats so its like a light silvery color... I wonder how it would look if the whole carpet was yellow? LOL. Oh yeah, and I dont think I'll be going with bright yellow but more of a mustard yellow but a little brighter. Like the yellow m3s...

You might have some issues finding mustard yellow carpet dye. There tend to only be primary colours in 2-3 shades. Also, if you read through that thread, they claim the paint doesn't last long under friction. Maybe the headliner would work well though.

Make sure you mix the dye right. If you don't, the results suck. It'll rub off, run when its wet, etc.

I've never seen great results out of vinyl dye. The only interior I've seen done with it (grey over original maroon) rubbed off in high traffic areas, like the armrest, the bottom of the seat, and the steering wheel. It looked pretty crappy where it rubbed through, but otherwise it wasn't bad.

do you need to seal the paint in anyway? it wont rub off on your dates dress will it? that would be instant cock block

There's a P71 on another site that used this stuff on the mostly blue dash. Came out pretty decent.

The right vinyl dye will hold up, I know we used it on a few pieces in my dads truck that were worn. Looks like new. I would chrome plate the hood and wear sunglasses though .

You make a good point about finding the right color dye... How hard is it to remove the headliner anyways? What about just covering it with a thin fabric? But that might mess it up, its mint right now and I dont want to f it up.

you'd be better off replacing the fabric on the headliner rather than dying it. Its not that hard to remove. Pull the dome light, and all the trim around the perimiter of the headliner. It pulls down, then you have to figure how to get it out of the car. Book says to carefully pull the front towards you in the back seat, and roll it just enough to fit it out the back door. Others have pulled them out the passenger side. Basically all the headliner is made from is a piece of heavy cardboard with thin cloth glued to it.

Yeah I think if I do try to do something in yellow, the headliner might be the way to go. It also wont look weird from the outside. I'm just worried that after I take the thing out, it will be messed up and never be the same.

I've replaced mine. The one in the car was actually pulled from another. It sits fine. Just take your time with it. If you can find one in the junkyard, pull the headliner out of that for practice. Don't have to buy it, just stuff it back in the car when you're done. Or, you can buy it, recover it as needed, and install when you're ready.

I pulled the headliner out of my car over three times. The cardboard is strong. Nothing to mess up.
