    '87 140mph speedo in '79?

I have a 140mph speedo out of an '87 Crown Vic and I'm wondering if it is a direct replacement for my 85mph speedo in my '79 LTD-S Coupe. I know there's probably an extra idiot light or something, but I don't care since it won't light up anyway. I just want to make sure the fuel gauge and speedo will work correctly...

If u change out the wire foil thing (sorry for not knowing what its really called lol) on the back with the one off ur 79 it should work.. I had to do that to my 86 cluster to work in my 83....

All you should do is have both speedometers on the table. Take off the the clear faceplates from both units, unbolt the actual speedometer assembly from both units and put the 140 speedometer into the back shell of your original speedometer and close everything back up.

Would just switching the speedo really work properly?
