Ok, quick question... I know this has been asked before, but I just can't remember... (It sucks getting old!) Will 50/50 seats out of a 87 fit in a 91? I think they changed the floor pan some time in the mid eighties, but I can't remember for sure... And I couldn't find anything in the archives...
I am going back to the 50 / 50 seats in my Crown Vic, which were original. The reason is, the plastic trim pieces on the Police bucket seats are getting harder and harder to find, and they seem to break all the time... that has to be some of the cheapest plastic known to mankind! I have had about 4 sets either break all together, or crack and fall apart. I have even tried coating the inside of the plastic trim piece with fiberglass, to try to strengthen it... no help... They crack anyway... And it is getting harder and harder to find the plastic trim pieces in the junk yards of ANY color... (I have the dye to redye other color pieces..) The side pieces from the 88 to 94 Tauruses will fit, but most of those are electric seats, and the trim pieces are different. I found a pair of the 50 / 50 seats in good condition in the local yard... Going to get them next week when I get paid... I have to recover them of course, but the shop I use will do both seats for $350.00, and that is vinyl with cloth inserts. The original seats were all vinyl, but the springs were all busted... and would have cost an extra $150.00 to redo all of the springs... (There was NO 50 / 50 seats in the junkyards around here at the time) So I got the buckets and had them recovered. He has the correct color fabric for the policecars, and the correct vinyl... so they should look good. I will turn the radio console around, so the radios will mount between the front of the seats and the dash... and still be no holes drilled to install them... since it will still be mounted using the front inside seat bolts... I will just have to re-wire everything, which I was about to do anyway.
