2004 rubber floor in an 86?

    Hey,

I replaced the rubber floor in my 84 cop car last year with brand new material from ACC carpets. It fit pretty good, but by the end I was rushing the job, and trimmed it a bit short in a few places. So now there are a few spots where it doesn't quite meet the trim.

There's an 04 Police Car in a junk yard here, and the guy only wants $10 for the rubber flooring. Would it fit an 84? I know they changed the floor pans a bit in 90, but it looks pretty much the same. Ideas? Thanks.

Pull your flooring out and rhinoline it. That way you don't have to trim anything just paint.

I wonder if a tailor's tapemeasure could help determine the fit?

Let me try to help ya here.

I know 03+ carpet WILL NOT fit a -02 without adding something in the trans tunnel area for the missing restraints control module. One would need to add something.

The other thing to take into consideration is the floors in general. Rhinolining it isnt a bad idea at all.

The tunnel is indeed different (especially up under the dash in the front). Not sure if the cross members under the seats are in different locations or not. If you already have carpet now, keep it. The rubber is not as nice.

Rhino lining is great, but even with its rough surface there is still going to be an issue with sound deadening. Also, there is some insulation value, but not much. Maybe apply that lizard skin stuff to the floor, and then rhino line over it?

The 04 police car is vinyl, just like the one you have now... They stopped making the rubber flooring in 1991-1992 when the company that made them for the car manufacturers went on strike, and the owner shut the factory down, instead of giving in... So another company started making the vinyl ones for the car companies... So if the carpets in the 2004 are indeed the older rubber carpets... they are out of an older car... and they will fit....
