    Headliner

I just noticed last night that the headliner on the 91 is starting to come down in the back seat area... (small area about 4 inches in diameter..) I was just thinking the other day how well it has held up... It is original. The heat and humidity down here usually kills them pretty quick... I also noticed the sail panels are getting sort of "ratty" looking.. Those were recovered about 5 years ago when I did the package shelf... So I will prpbably have those covered at the same time... As well as the sun visors... they are faded and the passenger side has a small rip near the "ticket" light between the visors... And the hole is sort of like worn thru, since the fabric is getting really thin... Guess the next project for the car is the headliner! The headliner, door panels, and the back seat are the only things that is still original in the interior... Guess it will be down to the back seat and door panels after this!
I think I will tint the windows after the new headliner etc... to keep the fabric from fading so bad... (the side sail panels are already fading quite badly)
    Tom...

I have done the headliners in several, including my 84... But, with all of the equipment in my car... I would have to take the center console out to remove the headliners board... There is a guy locally that will redo the headliner in the car for $85.00 ... Money well spent... Also he does the recovering in the car... He doesn't remove the headliner board. he does all of the local car dealers cars... and is an artist when it comes to redoing the headliners... I watched him do one in the car once... it was something to watch.... And he doesn't get any glue over spray anywhere... and guarantees the job for 2 years... He said he will do the sail panels for $25.00 extra, so they will match the headliner. The sun visors will go to my upholstery shop... $35.00 for the original cloth material and will also match the interior... He did my visors in my 84 in vinyl... they matched perfectly the rest of the interior plastic trim pieces...

Sounds like it will be money well-spent! Can you post some before and after pics?

At some point I will have to take the mint headliner down in my mom's CV to get to the rivets or bolts that hold down the vinyl roof. When and/or if I have to replace the headliner, is there a kit, or is this a custom job?

you just need 2 yards of headliner material and some contact cement

But make sure to get the 3M spray headliner stuff... or else it will melt the foam headliner board... (I did that on my first one i did, my 89 caprice... had to go to the junkyard and get another one... it melted the heack out of the headliner board! (the headliner board is made out of a rigid foam and carboard combo... )

let me know if you need to redo yours, i'll walk you thru the steps...

i try to avoid the 3M super tack stuff. smells like urine and it does not hold that great. we use either industrial coontact cement made for doing cabnitry, or we get stuff similar to the 3M form our wholeseller, no smell and holds better in hot moist environments.

the headliner board in my 85 is cardboard, the one in the 97 is more like compressed fiberglass insulation.
Here is the headliner i did in my 85

I would like to do the LTD script in my headliner, like Duce has done to his. That is really a nice minor detail mod to the interior, imo.
