    Headliner options

I was wondering, did Ford use the cardboard/foam/cloth glued headliners from the beginning of the panther series? I've been thinking a lot recently, about my old Chevelle. It had the headliner where it gets attached to the ribs that cross the roof. If not ford, has anybody tried to put one of these in a box? I think it'ld do a lot for the retro style I'm awfully fond of.

or, you take the foam backed headliner and have lines sewn across it, then glue it to your board. if you dont want stitching, then take some 1/4" high density foam, and cut lines in it with 45* edges, then have the headliner tucked into the grooves

See I thought about cutting the lines into the foam, but my mental picture it almost looks like a seat cushion on the ceiling. Where as the old-school headliner more hangs from the ceiling rather than stuck to it. still doin research on this. I wanna do it when I get the vinyl top done in March.

          Thanks Mangs

Having worked in an upholstery shop, I did design some completely custom interiors...if you are wanting 'ribs', here are your options:

              1. On bare cardboard, you can glue on some rubber weatherstripping of some sort, in the same pattern as the older headliner, and then simply glue the cloth on over it.

              2. Spread the cloth you are going to use over the cardboard, and then add an extra foot in length. Cut the material laterally in 14" sections, and then sew them back together, just like the original old bow-style was done....and then glue the cloth to the board. It won't stick out as far as the original, but it will definitely look different.

By the way? Headliners are criminally easy to do....
