After installing door and floor courtesy lamps in the '98, I wanted these same useful features on the '01.
As with the '98, installing floor courtesy lamps was essentially plug and play. However, installing door courtesy lamps on '01 and '02 P71s takes a little more effort.
Unlike the '98 and '99 P71s, there is no cavity behind the red lense.
Therefore, some cutting is involved.
Use an adhesive to secure the donor lense and bulb housings.
The tricky part is snaking the lamps' wiring through the rubber "tunnel" between the doors and the vehicle's body.
I used a high tech coat hanger and equally high tech duct tape.
The rest is easy. Connect the the new wiring to the donor bulb socket and splice into the vehicle's dome light wiring to power the bulbs. The wire you want to tap into is black with a light blue stripe.
The results:
I know it's blurry, but you get the point.
