Engine De-Greasers

Does anyone have a cleaner (or method for cleaning) that they prefer for leaks around the pan and seals. I have thought about using a pressure-washer after using some Simple Green. But I got to thinking that anywhere something can come out, something (like water) can get into the engine/pan/valve covers. Am I thinking too much, or what.

by the way, the car is an '89 GM with either 140,000 or 240,000. The guy I bought it from drove it all over, but he seems a little loose in the head. lol

as long as you cover the holes, nothing will get in.

I use a good engine degreaser like that, and then hit it with brake cleaner to get the other shit off...

Well I was thinking especially around the pan where it bolts to the block. It is kinda grimey. Would blasting it, after I scrub it with SimpGreen, with one of those plug-in spray washers risk blowing some water and gunk into the pan/engine? Not really trying to fuck up the only car I have right now.

garden hose rinsing is all you need, if you loosen up the dirt with cleaner and a brush.

i use my cheapie pressure washer and either castrol super clean, or purple power (generic super clean lol) the purple power does a wonderful job, advance auto has it in qt's gallons, and the 2.5 gal jug (best value.....under $10 last i checked)
spray the stuff on and let it soak, scrub what areas you can, repeat as needed
