    cyberdyne digital gauges

Well, aside from being WAY too bright, in my oil psi guage, three of the LED bars in the digital display have gone out in the first digit.
I can still tell what the pressure is, but its pretty damn annoying.
Its kinda looks like the predator's arm-bomb thing while its counting down.

Ill bet money that summit is not interested in honoring any warranty on it, since I didnt fill out the warranty card, and I have painted the bezel black....

To make them not as bright try getting some window tint and putting it on the face, cutting out perfect circle will be hard though. Worth a shot i suppose!

I mean, mine could be a fluke - its only happeneing in one digit. There could be a majority of them out there that are fine, but this one sure is crappin out. First it was just one segment, then another, then another, at this rate the gauge will be useless soon...

                  Question from full_ford_lvr
                  -------------------------------------------------------
Hi - I bought a blue digital Cyberdyne oil pressure gauge a few months ago, and one at a time, 3 of the LED segments in one of the digits have burned out.
Just wondering what any warranty/return policy for this item would be - this couldnt have happened at a better time, since Ive been thinking about buying the others to make a matching set...
                  Thanks,
                  Peter
                  the reply:

                  Hello,

Yes, they do have a 1 yr warranty on all their products.

A call tag will be issued for the defective gauge.

UPS will be out within 1-3 business days to pick up the defective gauge. If you happen to miss them, they do attempt three times.

In the meantime we will have a new gauge re-ship to you. The new package will ship today and you will receive a e-mail confirmation of the new order. If you have any other questions please contact us back.

                  Thank you,
                  Summit Racing

the "buying a set" part was a little white lie... was that wrong???
and sure enough - I also have an "order shipped" notification in my email inbox from them...

would hooking up the purple wire to the dash light pot cut down on the brightness.? In the past I've hooked up a dedicated pot just for the extra gauges, since they never matched in brightness to the stock cluster.

Even if the gauges aren't the best quality, you gotta love that kind of service. If the new gauge starts to crap out, you gotta :bump: this back up, though.

you mean to make them dimmer?
Unfortunatley that wouldnt work, since a digital gauge is always "lit up" - all the illumination wire does is actually tell the gauge to dim the display, but not nearly enough.

I definitly didnt expect this kind of service... I wonder if I can get away with waiting untill the new gauge is here to send the old one back... Id have to take apart the dash to get it out, then put the dash back together to drive while I wait... then do it all again to install the new one... funk that!
Taking apart the 90-91 dash panels isnt as easy as the older type...

Well at least they're taking care of it.

Did you hook up the dimming wire to cut the display brightness down though? I know what you mean about how it works, the tripminder is the same. Add power to that wire, and it gets dimmer, though it does have somewhat of a fade ability. Maybe just powering that all the time through a resistor would cut down the brightness enough.
