Remove the front seats, then remover the door sill trim (the one that runs from the front all the way to the back. Take out the bottom cushion for the rear seat, then all you have left are the belts. Use an impact with an appropriate torx bit to remove all the seat belts mounting points on the floor. The pull the carpet out.
-
Watch out for the seat belts, spray the torx bolts under the car with penatrating oil for like a week if you have rust. I've broken 3 of the torx bits already

I had my carpet out twice, very easy (especially if you have bench seat). Remove:::
Kick Panels
Side Trim Panels on Floor
Front Seat(s) (4 bots for each seat)
Seat Belts (T55 Torx needed)
Rear Seat Bottom Cushion (Push towards the back of the car and lift up)
The snail panels on the rear should be fine, I believe you can meneuver the carpet from under them, can't remember right now off hand. The carpet in my 1981 had staples too:::
Top Right hand corner of heel pad, a couple on the transmission hump. And one under the rear seat, where it goes down to the hump.

--Edit--
I was lucky enough where I didn't need to use any spray on the bolts, they came out fine for me w/o breaking using a breaker bar. I wouldn't suggest the same for you, they will probably break, I just got lucky I guess. For the rubber plugs, I *restored* mine by cleaning them with WD-40 and a rag, then soaked them in the armor-all-type rubber shine shit for a few days. They look new now. Still do, I just wonder how long that will last.Last edited by saiyaneye; 07-20-2007, 04:03 PM.

It doesn't sound hard at all to remove the carpeting. Wow. I know this is kinda off topic, but can you use a carpet cleaner like you use on a carpet in your house? Can you also use them on the cloth seats? What about the head liner? Cause my interior smells from when it had water in it. It's a musty smell, and I hate it.

I took mine out, soaked it with a mixture of resolv and water, then hung it on the fence and pressure washed the hell out of it. Carpet looks brandy new now, just faded from being 20 years old instead of stained from chew spills, food spills, and whatever other nasty garbage was in there.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Use anything you have handy to hang it on. Sawhorses, picnic table bench, whatever. I don't have a fence anymore either. You can do it with just a garden hose and a scrub brush. My carpet was especially horrible, and needed the pressure washer but most people I bet could do a fine job with just a hose and a spray nozzle. Lay it out in the driveway, dump a mix of carpet cleaner and water in there, scrub it then hose it till the soap and dirt stops coming out.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
