    newer dashes in a box?

i was wondering if any one knows if a newer mark 8, linccoln lcs, or a newer vic,or maybe even a t-bird dash would fit in a '84 crown vic . i was thinking maybe like the late 90's style of the t-bird or something similar? i was just wanting someting more sleeker than the squared off definately 80's das that i've got. thanks

90-91 Crownvic/Grand Marquis 'aero dash' will fit, but requires alot of re-wiring.
      LTD is still here

        Re-wiring isn't exactly the term I'd use.

T-birds aren't as wide, so I doubt the dash would fit up correctly. The curve of the window also makes for a very long dash, which wont fit properly in a box witout cutting, and there is the matter of the vast amounts of re-wiring that would need to happen.

One of the problems, minor in the whole scale of things is the speedometer. The newer ones are all electronic and the older and cable driven. I don't know who has converted from one to another as of yet. I would venture to say something that is the right width would come out of a full size truck or suv. I've seen a mustang dash in a ranger and our cars should be the next size up from those.

Fun idea. I've thought before that maybe a '92 or newer Vic dash would work, if only since they might be easier to come by than the '90-'91 stuff. It should be easy to measure the later dash to see if it'd physically fit ... no clue about the mounting points, however. The wiring part does sound pretty scary to me ... I've got all aftermarket stuff right now except for the climate controls (and I might go Vintage Air with that one of these days), but I suppose with a bunch of quality time with a multimeter you might be able to cut-and-splice the two factory harnesses. Electronic speedo senders are pretty easy to come by these days if you need one, but I wonder whether your original "gauge" cluster could be modified to fit?

The 90-91 dash isnt hard to find, they also used it in 92-94 merks, updated it slightly too.

what i was looking at was the mn-12 t-bird dashes or possibly one of the sexy mark-8 from the mid to late '90's. i hadn't thought of looking towards the larger trucks i might start checking thm out next time a the bone yard. anyone know what the better measurements are to look at when i'm checking?as for rewire that wouldn't worry me to much as i've been working on a custom digital dash and would just change the mock-up from the dash i have to the one i'm installing, and with the heater controlls i'm also allready up-grading to the newer taurus turn nob set-up instead of the slider bars. plus the radio's aftermarket any how so like i said rewire i'd just keep what i've got and swap it out. hey if i get one out of a truck most of them have cup holders stock in the dash .

You might try bugging saiyaneye... I think he's the one who was telling me about the later Panther seats and dashes he's been looking at for his '81. Don't remember if he has any measurements, though.
